A large-scale law conference was held on the 25th anniversary of the major "Jurisprudence" at MSU

On May 22, the International Scientific and Practical Conference "Legal Doctrine: International Experience and Practical Implementation in Ukraine" was held at Mariupol State University.

The forum was organized with the support of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, the National Police of Ukraine and the European Organization of Public Law. It united over 200 lawyers, among them there were 40 doctors of sciences and 62 candidates of sciences from 23 universities and scientific institutions of Ukraine, Greece, Italy, Cyprus, Poland, Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan, as well as practicing lawyers. 


As the participants noted, that was the first such a large-scale law-oriented-conference, organized in Ukraine in recent years. The participants received greetings from Vyacheslav Abroskin, the co-chairman of the organizing committee, the First Deputy Head of the National Police of Ukraine - Head of the Criminal Police, General of the Police of the Second Rank and Oleksandre Kutsya, Candidate of Laws and the Head of Donetsk Regional State Administration.


Professor Konstantin Balabanov, Rector of Mariupol State University, Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Honorary Consul General of the Republic of Cyprus in Mariupol, Mykola Trofimenko, Advisor to the Head of the Donetsk Regional State Administration, Vice-rector on International Affairs of Mariupol State University, Ksenia Sukhova, Deputy Mayor of Mariupol, Elena Georgopoulou, General Consul of the Hellenic Republic in Mariupol, Sergey Vitvitsky, Head of the Department of Organizational and Analytical Support and Rapid Response of the GDNP in Donetsk Region, Yevhen Mykytenko, Head of the Main Department of the State Migration Service of Donetsk region, Dean of the Faculty of International Relations of Institute of International Relations of the National Aviation University and Professor Boris Babin, Senior Research Consultant of the European Law and International Integration Institute of Legislation of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine addressed to the audience.


Among the key issues discussed at the forum were as follows: the development of legislation in terms of globalization, the protection of citizens' rights and freedoms as a priority area in law enforcement activity, the current state and prospects of the development of National Police of Ukraine, and the modernization of the judicial power in the context of European integration. The scholars and practising lawyers paid a great attention to the problem of the development of legal education in Ukraine and abroad. 


Professor Calliopi Fotiadi, the Dean of the Faculty of Law of National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and Academic Vyacheslav Komarov, Vice-Rector of Yaroslav Mudryi National Law University, who spoke at the plenary session, shared their experience of lawyers training. 


Participants' reports were included into collection published before the conference was launched. In the coming days, the electronic version of the collection will be posted on the university's website.


The holding of a forum of such level at MSU is the result of the fruitful cooperation of the University with a wide range of partners both in Ukraine and abroad, as well as evidence of the important role, which Mariupol State University plays in the training of highly skilled lawyers. 


MSU has 25 years of experience in lawyers training. During this period of time, the University has trained nearly 3,500 lawyers, among them more than 30 candidates and doctors of law. The students of the Faculty of Law listen to the lectures by reputable Ukrainian and foreign scholars, authors of textbooks and draft laws, and to improve the practical skills of future lawyers, a Legal Clinic, which provides free legal assistance to socially vulnerable groups of the population, works at the Faculty of Law and Economics. 


In 2019 Mariupol State University opened a new unique for Mariupol and Donetsk region major - "International Law". In terms of European integration of Ukraine, lawyers specializing in international law are highly sought after specialists who can work in state authorities and local self-government agencies and companies aimed at cooperation with foreign partners and international organizations.


During the meeting with professors Calliopi Fotiadi and Vyacheslav Komarov, which took place on the eve of the conference, Rector Konstantin Balabanov agreed about support of legal professions of Mariupol State University on the part of domestic and foreign partners.
