On September 12 Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Hellenic Republic to Ukraine Vassilis Papadopoulos visited Mariupol State University. The Ambassador arrived accompanied by Consul General of the Hellenic Republic to Mariupol Dimitris Papandreou and Head of the Federation of Greek Communities of Ukraine Oleksandra Protsenko-Pichadzhi.
The visit of Vassilis Papadopoulos to the University is quite natural since MSU is an important center for spiritual revival of Greeks of Ukraine and a leading center of Ukraine's cooperation with foreign countries in the field of education, science and culture. Following the tradition the guests of honor were given a bread-and-salt welcome by MSU students. During the tour around MSU its Rector, Professor, Consul Honorary of the Republic of Cyprus to Mariupol Kostyantyn Balabanov spoke about the key events in the history of the University’s cooperation with Greece. The University tour was followed by a press-conference and by a concert of the best vocalists and art ensembles of the University, organized specifically on the occasion of the Ambassador’s arrival. After visiting MSU Mr. Papadopoulos met with Mariupol City Mayor Yuriy Hotlubey and visited a modern multifunctional logistics center – a Wholesale Market for Agricultural Products "Azovskiy". Mariupol State University and the Hellenic Republic are connected by fruitful cooperation in the field of education, science and culture. Greece was the first foreign partner of the University and actively supported it at all stages of its development. The experience of complex cooperation of this kind constitutes the basis of the unique model of international relations which is currently being successfully implemented at MSU. It provides for an effective and comprehensive cooperation with Ministries of Education, Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Regional Administrations, City Halls, Consulates, Universities and NGOs abroad. | |
