American students told members of the MSU club "Encounters" about the celebration of the Thanksgiving Day

Students of Mariupol State University practiced spoken English skills during the regular meeting of the student club "Encounters", which works on the basis of the Theory and Practice of Translation Department under the guidance of Associate Professor Olena Peftiieva.

This time the meeting was dedicated to the Thanksgiving day which is celebrated annually in the United States, Canada and many other countries on the fourth Thursday of November.

Brian Williams (Texas) and Noah Habdon (Washington), students of Brigham Young University, told about the history of Thanksgiving to freshmen and masters of the Translation (English) major. Among other things, the participants of the meeting learned that this holiday is mainly associated with the end of agricultural work and was originally a day of thanksgiving for the blessings of the previous year's harvest.

Also, while communicating with native English speakers, MSU students studied a number of phraseological units associated with the celebration of Thanksgiving, and practiced pronunciation while recalling events from their lives for which they are grateful.

Meetings of the Encounters club are held once a month. Everyone willing to take part in English-language discussions can contact the Theory And Practice Of Translation Department of MSU at: Budivelnykiv av., 129, room 303, or call (0629) 58-82-05.
