Bachelor diplomas from Fabrizio Romano: the Italian Ambassador visited MSU

On June 21, 2013 Fabrizio Romano - Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Italian Republic to Ukraine - and Nicola Franco Balloni - Director of the Institute of Italian Culture, Professor h. c. of Mariupol State University - paid a visit to MSU.

The guests had been invited to visit MSU by its Rector, Professor, Consul Honorary of the Republic of Cyprus to Mariupol Kostyantyn Balabanov. The first item on the agenda of the honored guests was tour of Mariupol State University.

The Italian partners were warmly welcomed at MSU. They were greeted with traditional bread-and-salt and with a Ukrainian folk dance performed by the University folk dance ensemble "Promin".

The guests participated in the opening ceremony of the photo exhibition "Ecosystems" by famous Italian photographer Luca Bracali. During the tour of the University Fabrizio Romano visited the Konstantinos Leventis Library of Hellenistic Studies, the Italian Culture Center and the Department of the Italian language, literature and culture.

On the occasion of the delegation’s arrival a solemn meeting of the MSU academic staff was held in the University auditorium. This meeting was attended by Deputy Mayor of Mariupol Gennadiy Mytrofanov. At the meeting Fabrizio Romano and Nicola Franco Balloni were awarded Medals for Merits to MSU by Rector of the University Kostyantyn Balabanov.

Then the honored guests took part in the graduation ceremony of the first bachelor graduates majoring in Italian Language and Literature. It was a unique experience since the diplomas were handed to the graduates by the head of a foreign diplomatic mission. Bachelor Yulia Mitko on behalf of all the students expressed appreciation for such honor to H.E. Fabrizio Romano and to Mr. Franko Balloni in her response speech in Italian which she had perfectly mastered while studying at MSU. She also thanked the University administration and teaching staff of her Department for their assistance in professional and personal development.

After the concert performed by the best soloists and ensembles of MSU Fabrizio Romano, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Italy to Ukraine, met with the City Mayor at Mariupol City Council.

Mariupol State University has been fruitfully cooperating with Italy for 10 years in the field of scientific research, education and culture. In the period from 2009 to 2012 more than 200 MSU students and faculty members participated in international programs in Italy within the framework of cooperation agreements with Italian universities.
