On October 17, Mariupol State University hosted a meeting of the Consul General of the Hellenic Republic in Mariupol Grigorios Tassiopoulos with students of the Faculty of Greek Philology and Translation..
The diplomat was introduced by the Rector of MSU, Professor, Honorary Consul General of the Republic of Cyprus in Mariupol Kostyantyn Balabanov. The event was attended by the teachers, the students of II-IV years and students of master degree of the following majors: "Secondary education. Language and literature (Modern Greek)", "Philology. Language and literature (Modern Greek)", "Philology. Translation (Modern Greek)".
At the initiative of Mr Tassiopoulos, the meeting was held in Greek in the format of a dialogue. Speaking with the students, the Consul General drew attention to the modern challenges facing future specialists and the importance of developing critical thinking. In his opinion, the life of modern people is concentrated in the Internet space, so the main task of education is to teach students to check information and to find the truth. Besides, one needs to have one's own opinion, adhere to it and advocate it.
The participants of the meeting discussed world history, ancient philosophy, Greek literature, international relations and problems of the modern society.
At the end of the event, Mr Tassiopoulos invited students to choose their own topics for discussion in the upcoming meetings.
