On June 26, Davide La Cecilia, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Italian Republic to Ukraine made a visit to Mariupol State University for the first time. The Ambassador saw the Italian Cultural Center, created in 2008 with the support of the Italian Embassy and the Italian Institute of Culture in Ukraine, and other international centers opened with the support of foreign partners.
The excursion was conducted by Professor Kostyantyn Balabanov, Rector of Mariupol State University, Honorary Consul General of the Republic of Cyprus in Mariupol. He told Mr. Ambassador about the results of the international activity of the University and the successful experience of cooperation with the Italian universities, such as: University of Messina, University of Rome Tor Vergata, University of Basilicata, University for Foreigners Perugia and others.
During the visit, Davide La Cecilia met with teachers of Italian Philology Department and those students who study Italian language and gave an open lecture «Italy and Europe». Today the Ambassador of Italy will also take part in the solemn ceremony of awarding diplomas to MSU bachelors.
Mariupol State University is an important center for studying and popularizing the Italian language and culture in the Eastern Ukraine. The University has been training philologists, translators and teachers of the Italian language for 10 years. MSU students regularly take part in the international programs in Italy and win Italian language skills contests. Graduates of the major «Language and Literature (Italian)» work in language schools, representative offices of international companies, international relations departments of state institutions or continue their studies at Italian universities.
