Development of cooperation with University of East London is already under discussion at Mariupol State University

On February 14th Mariupol State University held a press conference of Professor Konstantin Balabanov – Rector of Mariupol State University and Consul Honorary of Republic of Cyprus in Mariupol – and Professor John Shaw – Pro-Vice Chancellor International of University of East London.


Judging by the latest surveys, University of East London is one of the ten best universities of Great Britain. The delegation of University of East London headed by John Shaw – Pro-Vice Chancellor International – and assisted by Donald Ridley – an International Cooperation officer – visited our University for the first time. The purpose of the visit was to discuss and to more narrowly specify the cooperation prospects.

The starting point in the development of the relations between Mariupol State University and University of East London was the Agreement on Cooperation signed on December 1st, 2011. Rector of Mariupol State University Professor Balabanov met Professor Patrick McGee – Rector of University of East London – and John Shaw – Pro-Vice Chancellor International – in the framework of the 7th International Economic Forum "The Open Donbass” held in Donetsk.

The next step on the road to development of cooperation became a visit paid by a delegation of University of East London to Mariupol State University. Traditionally, the guests were welcomed with bread and salt and were shown around the University. The administration of University of East London took a great interest in the achievements of Mariupol State University in dissemination of the languages and the cultures of different nations of the world. At the their visit to Mariupol State University, the representatives of the British university had the opportunity of appreciating the efficiency of MSU culture centers created for the purpose of learning and disseminating the languages, the history and the cultures of different countries of the world.

MSU cooperation with University of East London is supposed to be maintained in accordance with the following priorities:
- academic exchanges;
- joint research conferences;
- study of the experience the Parties have accumulated in distant education;
- development and implementation of the double award project.

The interaction of MSU and UEL is of bilateral character. MSU instructors and students will take part in the Summer Schools of law, international relations, international economics and business annually held in London on UEL grounds. They will also take part in the so called Washington Semester that will make it possible for them to learn at the world known Business School in Washington D.C. for 6 months. In its turn, UEL administration took a great interest in the language curricula carried out by MSU and is planning to send its students for them to learn Russian, Ukrainian, Italian, French, German and Modern Greek on MSU grounds.
