On June 12 solemn meetings took place at Mariupol State University  on the occasion of awarding a title of Honorary Professor of Mariupol State University to Director of the European Public Law Organization, Professor Spyridon Flogaitis.

Spyridon Flogoitis is a world renowned scholar, lawyer, attorney, politician, author of hundreds of scientific papers, he gives lectures at leading universities around the world. He is a professor of public law at the University of Athens, Honorary Member of the Wolfson College (Cambridge University), Honorary Doctor of the University of Lisbon and the University of Political Science and Public Administration (Bucharest). 

Spyridon Flogaitis worked as an attorney and then he was a judge in the Greek State Council, twice serving as Minister of the Interior of Greece, was a Deputy Minister for European Affairs of Greece, and he run the gamut from the member to the head of the Administrative Tribunal of the United Nations. His merits and achievements are marked by the high state awards of France, Italy, Hungary, Portugal and other countries.

The solemn ceremony of giving mantle and diploma of Honorary professor was held by  Professor Kostyantyn Balabanov, Rector of Mariupol State University, Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Honorary Consul General of the Republic of Cyprus in Mariupol. He noted that the decision to award the title, which was unanimously adopted by the Academic Council of the University is quite expected. The MSU has been fruitfully cooperating with the European Public Law Organization for many years and is the first university in Ukraine, co-opted to this international organization.

Since 2006, the Office of the EPLO in Ukraine has been working on the basis of the University, which promotes the development of legal education and science, raising the legal literacy of the population. It was MSU with the support of Professor Flogaitis that facilitated the accession of Ukraine to the European Public Law Organization (as an observer). Also, the result of cooperation is the participation of the students of Mariupol State University in the international programs of the EOLP, the implementation of joint scientific projects under the Erasmus+ program, holding of scientific events with the assistance of this authoritative organization.

Professor Flogaitis has already visited MSU more than once, gave lectures to students, participated in scientific and practical conferences. During the current visit, the issues on supporting the legal professions of MSU, in particular, the new major «International Law», which was opened at the university this year were discussed. Spyridon Flogaitis said that this year, the EPLO will allocate four scholarships for  MSU students to study at the European Public Law Academy in Athens.
