"Italia Festival Barocco": World Famous Musicians Performed at MSU - "Duo Barocco" Duet

On October 8, the “Duo Barocco” Duet Concert within the 5th Italian Baroque Festival "Italia Festival Barocco", organized by the Embassy of Italy in Ukraine and the Italian Institute of Culture in Ukraine, took place in the auditorium of Mariupol State University.

The program of the festival, which began on October 2 and will last until October 15, includes a number of performances and master classes by world-renowned musicians in Kiev, Odessa, Chernivtsi, Lviv and Mariupol.

MSU is the only university of Ukraine to host a concert within the "Italia Festival Barocco". Professor Kostyantyn Balabanov, Rector of MSU, Honorary Consul General of the Republic of Cyprus in Mariupol, Diana Tryma, Director of the Department of Cultural and Social Development of the Mariupol City Council, Davide la Cecilia, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Italian Republic in Ukraine and Nansi Milezis Romano, art director of the festival. Kostyantyn Balabanov thanked the Italian partners for their cooperation and the opportunity to organize such a large-scale cultural event in Mariupol.

The Italian guitarist Luca Marconato, a participant in the prestigious international music festivals in Europe, the USA and Asia, and the Spanish drummer Andrea Picconi, who is highly regarded on the international stage as a teacher and recognized as "the ambassador of traditional percussion instruments of Italy and the Mediterranean" performed at the university. The concert program "Cuerdas y golpes" (Strings and Strikes) introduced the Mariupol public to the works of prominent composers of Italy and Spain: Francesco Corbetti, Carlo Calvi, Gaspara Sanza, Santiago de Murcia. At the end of the concert, the audience thanked the musicians with a long loud applause.

It is not the first time when Mariupol State University meet the foreign performers and organizers of "Italia Festival Barocco". In 2017, as part of the 4th Festival of Italian Baroque Music, the members of the "L'arte dell'Arco" trio and Anna Pastore, the director of the Italian Institute of Culture in Ukraine held open lectures and workshops for MSU students. This testifies to the high authority of the university as a leading center for the study and promotion of Italian language and culture in the East of Ukraine.
