On February 20-21, on the basis of the Mariupol Development Fund, the training "Communication and negotiation skills of the mediator is a key to a successful process",which was conducted by Frank Laney, professor of the Faculty of Law at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, a mediator of the Court of Appeal of North Carolina State, and a member of the Academy of Family Mediators.

During the event, the consecutive and simultaneous translation was provided by Maria Smirnova, the Acting Head of the Theory and Practice of Translation Department of Mariupol State University. 

The training was attended by 30 practicing mediators of Mariupol, including representatives of the judicial and law-enforcement system, social services, educational field, human rights organizations. Within two days they learned how to create correctly the communication processes necessary to achieve the result, and mastered the skills of building relationships with each other in order to solve problems.

As a result of business communication with Frank Laney, a number of agreements have been reached. The professor will read online lectures on the peculiarities of the American judicial system for the students of Mariupol State University of the major "Translation (English)", as well as to share his experience of mediation of conflict situations with the students of the major "International Relations".
