«Mariupol Space for Peаce»: MSU students were introduced to ethnic characteristics of Armenia, Azerbaijan and Greece

On 22nd of September on the Faculty of History of MSU there was held the first interactive meeting in human library format within the framework of “Mariupol Space for Peace” called “Ethnic customs of Pryazovia”.

The project "Mariupol Space for Peace" is implemented by the Student Historical and Archaeological Society of the Mariupol State University and the NGO "Initiatives Platform " Move ", following the results of the grant contest" Platform for Youth Dialogue and Reconciliation in the Community ", administered by The Initiative Center to Support Social Action "Ednannia". The financial support of the project is provided by the Kingdom of the Netherlands through the UNDP Peacebuilding and Reconstruction Program in Ukraine.

 

The participants met in the premises of MSU Museum of History and Archeology where they had the opportunity to get acquainted with three "living books" in other words with people who told about the traditions that used to exist and the ones that are still in existence in their families.

 

Armen Ohanesian presented the traditions of the Armenian ethnic group through the prism of wedding traditions. Sahiba Mammadova made a special emphasis on the religious holidays and the peculiarities of festive Azerbaijani dishes.

 

On September 25th, at 14:40, the second interactive meeting will take place at the Faculty of History of Mariupol State University (room 212) within Docudays UA Industry Platform. It is anticipated that the participants are to watch the film "Jamala`s kampf", (“Jamala`s struggle”) as well as discuss the fate of Crimean Tatars and taste CrimeanTatar cuisine.
