MSU and the Mariupol German Society will preserve the German culture of the Azov region

On 3 June, the Mariupol State University was visited by Iryna Brikshys, chairman of the Mariupol German Society “Wiedergeburt”.

The guest was warmly welcomed by the Rector, Professor Mykola Trofymenko, Dean of the Faculty of Foreign Languages, Associate Professor Hanna Tryfonova, Head of the German and French Philology Department, Associate Professor Yuliia Kazhan.

A memorandum was signed during discussions on possible areas of cooperation between MSU and the German Society. The parties agreed to join forces for joint activities to promote the German language, history and culture, and to preserve and research the traditions and history of ethnic Germans in Mariupol and the Azov region.

Cooperation will be carried out by organising and conducting educational, scientific, cultural and awareness-raising activities, developing and improving existing practices, and participating in projects of common interest.

The signing of the memorandum will provide us with new opportunities for students. Together with the members of the association, we can study the dialects of the ethnic Germans of the Azov region, research their culture, in particular everyday life, culinary and family traditions, hold events and generally disseminate the German language among the residents of the city and region,

– Hanna Tryfonova.
