MSU was visited by the head of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission in Mariupol Terje Sholswik
On March 29th, Mariupol State University was visited by the head of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission in Mariupol Terje Skjølsvik. Mr. Skjølsvik met with rector of Mariupol State University, Professor, Honorary Consul General of the Republic of Cyprus in Mariupol, Kostyantyn Balabanov, and Vice-rector for international relations, Professor Mykola Trofimenko. Kostyantyn Balabanov told guests about University, its active international and public activities, and the dialogue-oriented activities carried out at the premises of university and at the initiative of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe. They discussed the situation in Mariupol and in the region as well as prospects for further cooperation, in particular, the possibility of interaction between representatives of the mission with students in order to provide unbiased information on the activities of the SMM.
Terje Skjølsvik had the opportunity to talk to students the same day. At the beginning of the conversation Kostyantyn Balabanov presented the guest and noted with a special pride that the interpreter of the representation of OSCE SMM is a Mariupol State University graduate, former head of MSU student council Mariia Serdiuk. Maria attended the meeting and helped students to understand some specific English expressions on the activities of monitoring mission that came up in Terje Skjølsvik’s speech. He prepared a presentation that outlined the main challenges and lines of SMM's activities and answered students’ questions.
The event was attended by students of the Faculty of Economics and Law and students majoring in International Relations. Such meetings are important for them not only in terms of broadening the outlook, but also as a source of relevant for their major knowledge.
