PhD Student of the University of Manchester delivered lecture to MSU students

On April 25th, Mariupol State University hosted a lecture on Sociology in modern Britain by Anna Balazs, Ph.D. student from the University of Manchester.

The lecture was attended by teachers, Bachelor and post-graduate students of Mariupol State University and Donetsk State University of Management. At the beginning of the lecture, all those present were greeted by the head of the Department of Philosophy and Sociology, Professor Bogdan Sliushchinsky.

Anna Balazs undertakes an internship at the Department of Philosophy and Sociology of Mariupol State University. She is studying infrastructural changes in Mariupol after 2014 and how they are perceived by young people.

 

Lecturer compared the socio-economic and cultural development of Mariupol and Manchester. The latter was famous for its highly developed major industry a century and a half ago, but eventually turned into a center for education, science and technology. She also spoke about the scientific trends in sociology and teaching techniques in the UK.

 

Students were actively involved in the dialogue. They were interested in sociological research, industrial development and the state of freedom of speech in the UK. Anna was also asked how she evaluated the level of culture in Mariupol.
