This week, within the framework of the all-Ukrainian youth forum "Every tomorrow begins today", Mariupol State University was visited by a delegation of the European Union, which
included Director General for EU Enlargement Christian Danielson, Ambassador, Head of the EU Delegation to Ukraine Matti Maasikas and head of the support group of Ukraine in the European Commission Peter Wagner.
Rector of MSU, Professor, Honorary Consul General of the Republic of Cyprus in Mariupol Kostyantyn Balabanov told the guests about the successful international cooperation of the university and showed the EU Information center, opened in 2015. After that, the diplomats met with the participants of the youth forum. They discussed prospects for Ukraine in Europe, gender politics and building a democratic society.
The youth actively asked questions. The young people were interested in ways of attracting investments to Ukraine, interaction with young people in the EU countries and the role ambassadors of European youth (Young European Ambassadors) play. Also, the participants of the meeting asked the guests what they think about labour migration in Ukraine.
Peter Wagner expressed the opinion that the fact that many Ukrainians work abroad is not a problem, because they send the earned money to Ukraine. However, the EU continues to seek ways to share with Ukrainians the experience of developing private entrepreneurship, which will contribute to the emergence of new working places.
On this point, Matti Maasikas added that his motherland, Estonia, also faced outflow of labour force but, when the economic situation in the country improved, people returned. The head of the EU Delegation believes it will be the same in Ukraine.
Mariupol State University actively cooperates with institutions and organizations of the European Union. In different years, MSU was visited by European Commissioner for enlargement and neighbourhood policy Johannes Hahn, heads of the EU Delegation to Ukraine Jose Manuel Pinto Teixeira, Jan Tombinski and Hugh Mingarelli. With the support of the European Union Delegation, the EU Information center was established at the University, which is engaged in disseminating information about the European Union among the population of Mariupol and the region, and this year the EU career Day was held at MSU for the third time
We remind you that during this visit to Mariupol, the EU Delegation to Ukraine held a number of awareness-raising activities at the University involving students, schoolchildren and Mariupol entrepreneurs.
