On May 25th, the international conference "Innovative Approaches to Teaching Foreign Languages" was launched in the Greek city of Komotini. Democritus University of Thrace, the University of Western Macedonia and Mariupol State University organized the forum with the support of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.
Rectors of the universities-organizers, Metropolitan Maroni and Komotini Panteleimon participated at the opening ceremony of the conference. Governor of Eastern Thrace Christos Metios, Consul General of the Hellenic Republic in Mariupol Eleni Georgopoulou and Consul of Ukraine in Thessaloniki Aleksandr Voronin warmly greeted the participants.
Three days forum has gathered about 100 scientists from Greece, Ukraine, France, Cyprus, Canada, Romania, Turkey, Bulgaria, and Albania. Its goal was to discuss intercultural and interdisciplinary approaches in teaching foreign languages, issues of grading and critical literacy, internationalization and teaching in a digital learning environment.
During the conference, Rector and teachers of Mariupol State University demonstrated to the international community modern methods of teaching foreign languages used by the University. They are developed taking into account the best foreign experience, which is studied through the active international cooperation of the university.
Students of Mariupol State University study 6 European languages (English, Greek, German, French, Italian, Polish) within the framework of these majors, therefore the university has a great experience in this line of activities. Professor of Mariupol State University Olena Pavlenko heads one of the scientific sections, «Interdisciplinary Approaches in Teaching Foreign Languages».
