The Department of German and French Philology of MSU took part in the celebration of the German Language and Culture Week in Ukraine
The Department of German and French Philology of Mariupol State University joined the celebration of the German Language and Culture Week in Ukraine, which this year was dedicated to the 25th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Germany and Ukraine. The cultural program of the Week included about 70 events in 14 cities of Ukraine, in particular in Mariupol.
On November 15th, the Department of German and French Philology held a round table conference on the topic "Germany, the Germans and Their Everyday Life". During the event, students from the Faculty of Foreign Languages discussed schools, higher education, religion, and everyday life in Germany.
On November 16th, a German-language skype conference was organized for students of Mariupol State University studying German language. The expert group included a pensioner from Bavaria Christel Schatzl, who in 1998-1999 gave classes at Mariupol State University, a monk of the Order of Saint Benedict from the Ettal Abbey Pater Tadeus Schreiber and a student of Ludwig Maximilian University Eugene Kusaev, who studied German philology at Mariupol State University from 2012 till 2015. Also the conference was attended by students studying the German language at Mariupol City Lyceum and Gymnasium number 2.
Together with the native speakers, the participants of the conference discussed what is typical of the Germans and whether the stereotypes of Ukrainians about life in Germany is true.
On November 17th, at the Faculty of Foreign Languages, students will present their posters, depicting how do they imagine the life in Germany. On November 24th, the celebration at Mariupol State University will be continued with "gastronomic journey" to Germany.
We remind that this years the Weeks of German Language and Culture are special: diplomatic relations between Ukraine and Germany were established 25 years ago. Also, the academic year 2017-2018 is declared a year of Ukrainian-German friendship.
The Department of German and French Philology of Mariupol State University participates for the second time in the celebration. Last year MSU received a grateful letter from the Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany Wolfgang Mösinger for the successful conduct of the events.
