The Faculty of Greek Philology hosted a public lecture on the life and works of Nikos Kazandzakis
On 4th of April, at the initiative of the Coordinating Office for Education affiliated with the Consulate General of the Hellenic Republic in Mariupol, Georgios Stasinakis, founder and chairman of the Coordinating Committee of the International Fellows of Nikos Kazandzakis, visited Mariupol State University. The honorable guest was accompanied by Consul General of the Hellenic Republic in Mariupol, Elena Georgopoulou, and chairwoman of the Coordination Center for Education, Chrysa Tamisoglou.
Dean of the Faculty of Greek Philology, professor Svetlana Shepitko and Acting Head of the Department of Greek Philology and Translation, Associate Professor Yuliia Zharikova gave a tour of University for Mr. Stasinakis. After getting acquainted with the faculty, the guest met with Acting Rector, Professor Olena Bulatova, who talked about the main lines of activities and achievement of University and Ukrainian system of education as a whole.
Georgios Stasinakis paid special attention to the dialogue with students and teachers of the Greek Philology and Translation Department, during an open lecture on the life and works by Nikos Kazandzakis. Mr. Stasinakis has been engaged in promoting the work of the world-famous Greek writer Nikos Kazandzakis, holding seminars and lectures on his creative heritage. The lecture was of particular interest for the 3d and 4th years students analyzing the works by the famous Greek writer Kazandzakis during classes on the history of Greek literature. Students asked many questions and a distinguished visitor gladly responded to them.
Tomorrow, on 5th of April, during the celebration of the year of Nikos Kazandzakis, proclaimed by the Ministry of Culture and Sport of Greece, the cultural center "Meotida" will hold a cultural and educational event "Works by N. Kazandzakis viewed by students". Students of Mariupol State University under the supervision of teachers Efi Makri and Argiris Nikas presented a theatrical performance based on the novel by Nikos Kazandzakis, "Christ is being crucified again”, as well as eloquent expressions from the author’s works.
