On the eve of departure from Mariupol, the Consul General of Greece, Eleni Gheorgopoulou, organized a farewell event. The management leadership of Mariupol State University and professors of the Faculty of Greek Philology and Translation. The event took place in the Greek cultural center «Meotida» with the support of Mariupol Greek Society and MSU.
Professor Kostyantyn Balabanov, Rector of Mariupol State University, Honorary Consul General of the Republic of Cyprus in Mariupol thanked Mrs. General Consul for fruitful cooperation and comprehensive support of the university. He noted the high professionalism and diplomatic talent of Eleni Georgopoulou and gave her a medal for Merit to MSU.
Professor Mykola Trofymenko, Vice-Rector for Scientific and Pedagogical Affairs (International Cooperation) of MSU, counsellor of the Regional State Administration express his gratitude on behalf of the leadership of the Donetsk Regional State Administration to Eleni Georgopoulou for successful diplomatic activity.
The diplomatic mission of Mrs. Georgopoulou in Mariupol started in 2016. During three years of work, the consul has repeatedly acted as an initiator and participant in many educational, scientific and cultural activities, in particular at the University. She held open lectures for students and professors of Faculty of Greek Philology and Translation, contributed to the replenishment of the Library of Hellenic Studios named after Konstyantynos Levendis, was a co-organizer of the Days of the Greeks of the Azov Sea, the solemn events for the Independence Day of Greece, Ohi Day, the World Greek Language Day, cultural and educational event «Works of Nikos Kazandzakis through the eyes of students», scientific and practical conference «Tragedy of the Greeks of Ukraine in the historical memory of Ukrainians», etc.
Associate professor Julia Zharikova, the head of the Greek philology and translation department addressed to Eleni Georgopoulou, the Consul General of Greece in Mariupol with warm words of gratitude for the significant contribution to the training of the specialists and support of the initiatives of students and university teachers.
The farewell party took place in a warm and friendly atmosphere. Eleni Georgopoulou was wished continued success in responsible activity at the new diplomatic post in Canada.
