Within the frameworks of the visit to Mariupol, Davide La Cecilia, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Italian Republic to Ukraine met with the management of the City Council and Mariupol State University. As a result of the negotiations, important agreements have been reached.
Mr. Ambassador expressed his interest in the project on publishing a book on the history of relations between Italy and Mariupol, which will be prepared by the scientists of the university, and promised to continue the support of those MSU students, who annually win a contest on scholarships of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Italian Republic to study in Italy. In addition, in May 2020, with the support of the Italian Embassy in Ukraine and the Italian Cultural Institute a large international conference on the impact of Italian culture on the establishment of European civilization will be organized at MSU.
Thanks to Professor Kostyantyn Balabanov, Rector of MSU, the Ambassador of Italy met with Vadym Boychenko, the Mayor of Mariupol.
Davide La Cecilia discussed with the mayor the following issues: infrastructure development, the possibilities of improving the railroad connection of Mariupol with other cities, ways of sharing experiences and technologies in the field of alternative energy and agribusiness. In these areas, Italy has significant developments. As for the cultural and educational cooperation, the participants of the meeting planned to hold the Day of Italy in Mariupol next year.
The Embassy of Italy will also provide a great support to Mariupol State University and according to Vadim Boychenko, it will play a significant role in promoting the Italian language and culture in the region.
