Archaeological research of a medieval necropolis: Associate Professor of Mariupol State University Viacheslav Zabavin is undergoing an inter

Associate Professor of the Chair of History and Archaeology of Mariupol State University, Head of Archaeological Expeditions of the University Viacheslav Zabavin went to Slovakia for a long-term working internship at the international competition from scholars.

The Educational and Scientific journey is implemented within the framework of the Scientific Cooperation Agreement between Mariupol State University and the Institute of Archaeology of the Slovak Academy of Sciences. It contributes to the development of Ukrainian-Slovak Scientific Cooperation.

The expedition, which brought together archaeologists from Slovakia, Ukraine and Poland, began work near the village of Boina. Viacheslav Zabavin joined the study of the early Slavic medieval mound necropolis. The lecturer plans to apply his invaluable experience during archaeological expeditions of Mariupol University in Ukraine and in the training of future historians.

The internship has just begun. At the very least, I expect to communicate with my European colleagues, learn the methods of research of settlement and burial archaeological sites, acquire skills in working with modern high-tech equipment, get acquainted with the unique natural and historical monuments of Slovakia, as well as its rich cultural and historical heritage. Among other things, I hope to get a fervor of inspiration to invite students to the excavations next year and continue their archaeological research together

This is not the first excavation of Viacheslav Zabavin in Slovakia. In 2019, archaeologists of the University of Mariupol, under the guidance of an Associate Professor, conducted research on medieval settlements.
