The charitable organization "Bumburas Fund " awarded the best students of Mariupol State University with 25 scholarships. On September 9th, Mr. Panteleimon Bumburas, Head of the Fund and President of Hellenic Business and Businessmen Association has visited MSU in order to personally award scholarship certificates. During the visit he was accompanied by Head of the Federation of Greek Societies of Ukraine Oleksandra Protsenko-Pichadzhi and Consul General of Greece in Mariupol Eleni Georgopulu.
The honored guest was warmly greeted at the premises of the University. Students traditionally met the guest with bread and salt. Later on, Mr. Bumburas met with the administration and had a tour of the University. The ceremony of awarding scholarships certificates was held at the assembly hall of Mariupol State University where all the staff, students and teachers of the University were gathered. Students awarded scholarships pay tuition fees and demonstrate progress in scientific and social activities as well as high level of academic performance. Scholarship awarded by Bumburas Fund will cover the costs of tuition. Total amount of charitable assistance will be more than 200 thousand hryvnas in academic year 2016-2017.
While opening the meeting, Rector of Mariupol State University, Professor, Honorary Consul of the Republic of Cyprus in Mariupol Kostyantyn Balabanov thanked Panteleimon Bumburas for the support provided to the University and its students, emphasizing significant contribution paid by the guest to the promotion of Hellenism in Ukraine and the implementation of socially important projects and programs. Mr. Bumburas in his turn, has made an announcement which gave joy to all the students. Fifteen best students of Mariupol State University with great academic knowledge in Greek history will have the opportunity to spend summer holidays 2017 in Greece. All travel costs will be covered by Bumburas Fund.
The fund was created in 2016 by Panteleimon Bumburas - a successful entrepreneur born in Greece, who has been living and working for almost 20 years in Odessa (since 1997) running one of the largest construction companies in Ukraine.
Panteleimon Bumburas has been regularly providing financial assistance to the Federation of Greek Societies of Ukraine, certain Greek communities and to a branch of the Hellenic Foundation for Culture in Odessa, the Consulate General of the Hellenic Republic in Odessa and the Embassy of the Hellenic Republic in Kiev. Nowadays a widely known philanthropist actively assists Mariupol State University, which is not surprising, as he shares a number of common goals with the university, in particular, the goal of finding and supporting talented youth, promoting Greek language, literature and culture, strengthening friendship and cooperation between Ukrainian and Greek nations.
