Rector of Mariupol State University, Professor Mykola Trofymenko presented the University and Mariupol at the webinar "Ukraine: War, Economy, Path to Rebuilding".

The event was held on May 13 in a mixed format. On the basis of Cornell University, which is one of the leading universities in the United States and is part of the prestigious Ivy League, representatives of the fields of politics, economics and science of Ukraine familiarized foreign colleagues with the current situation in the country as a result of russian military aggression.

Rector of Mariupol State University presented a report to the audience on the current situation in Mariupol and in the educational and scientific sphere of Ukraine. Mykola Trofymenko drew attention to the tragic fate of the city of Maria and Mariupol University.

The half-million city is now under complete blockade. According to official information, 95% of residential buildings in Mariupol were destroyed. The infrastructure was completely destroyed. The city is not habitable. Our university, where more than 4,5 thousand students studied, where more than 600 lecturers and staff worked, is now destroyed

The head of the Mariupol University also spoke about the resumption of work in Kyiv, noted the importance of supporting internally displaced universities in Ukraine by European educational and scientific structures, and identified the main trends in post-war recovery.

It so happens that we are the only university in the world that has the name of the Hero City of Mariupol in its name. Therefore, the restoration of the work of Mariupol State University is a historic mission. I hope that after the Victory we will definitely return to our hometown and MSU will become the center of transformation of the New Mariupol!

In turn, Mariupol university received a number of proposals for internationalization of educational programs and attracting resources using the expertise of foreign partners.
