On February 10th, students majoring in Translation (Modern Greek) and Language and Literature (Modern Greek) of Mariupol State University had an opportunity to attend a distance Skype lecture on the Terminology institutions and their networks in Greece and the European Union delivered by professor of the Democritus University of Thrace Mr. Panagiotis Krimpas. The lecture was delivered within the course of study "Terminology of the Modern Greek Language".

Professor P. Krimpas is the author of many scientific publications on translation and terminology. He collaborated with various universities such as the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (Greece), the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (Greece), Tallinn University (Estonia), the Western University of Timisoara (Romania), Yildiz Technical University (Turkey), as well as the Directorate-General for Translation of the European Commision, was an academic adviser at Greek public services, has an ample experience in legal practice and translation in the field of jurisprudence.

In his lecture for students studying the Modern Greek language, Mr P. Krimpas addressed the following issues: basic terminology concepts, European Union terminology institutes, modern organizations engaged in Greek terminology. The professor paid special attention to the peculiarities of legal terminology translation, including the nonequivalent vocabulary, translation quality criteria, described the principles of coining the terms, proposed the stages for analyzing a terminology unit. Professor described cases of European and Greek national terminology standards.

Mr. P. Krimpas provided electronic addresses of Greek organizations on terminology issues, and also presented his monograph "Legal Language, Legal Terminology. Theory and Practice” handed over to the Greek Philology and Translation Department. This monograph has been written in collaboration with Mr. K. Valleondis, head of the Greek Terminology Society ЕΛЕТО.

During the lecture, students asked questions about the Greek military, political and medical terminology. The information obtained will be used when writing master's thesis. Professor P. Krimpas looks forward to further cooperation and expresses his wish to visit the MSU.
