A student of the specialty "Philology. Language and Literature (English)" of Mariupol State University Kateryna Severina took part in the II round of the International Competitive Tender of Students' Research Papers in Philology.

The jury received 27 research papers from Ukrainian and foreign higher education institutions. International participants include students from Germany, Poland and Switzerland. As a result of the review process, the authors of the top nine research papers were invited to participate in the competition's scientific conference, including a student from Mariupol State University.

Kateryna Severina presented the results of a research study on naming and translation of trademarks in English. The student was supervised by Yuliia Fedorova, Head of English Philology Department, Associate Professor.
 

With the increasing globalisation and popularisation of the English language, the number of English-speaking brands is growing steadily around the world. We have developed a sample of companies categorised by naming and translation. The study identified 11 main types by which brand names are given, including first and last names, geographical names, alliteration and acronyms. On the translation of trademarks, they are most often transferred from the source language to the target language by means of transcription or transliteration.

The jury praised the performance and content of the MSU student. Kateryna Severina received a second-degree diploma at the International Competitive Tender of Students' Research Papers in Philology.
