On January 24, 2013, Minister of Education and Science, Youth and Sports of Ukraine, Professor Dmytro Tabachnyk met in Kyiv with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Italy to Ukraine, Fabrizio Romano and with director of the Italian Institute of Culture in Ukraine, Professor Nicola Franco Balloni.
The meeting was also attended by head of International Cooperation Department of the Ministry of Education and Science, Youth and Sports of Ukraine, Andriy Bozhkov, and by rector of Mariupol State University, Professor Kostyantyn Balabanov. At the meeting they discussed the prospects of the Ukrainian-Italian cooperation in the fields of education, science and culture. One of the main topics of discussion constituted the state of teaching the Italian language and culture at Ukrainian universities. For reference, the Italian language and literature are taught at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University, Kyiv National Linguistic University, Odessa I.I. Mechnikov National University, Mariupol State University and other universities of Ukraine. The participants of meeting also discussed the topics of teaching Italian in Ukrainian schools, lyceums, and gymnasiums, as well as of publishing another edition of the book on the Ukrainian-Italian cooperation. In the course of the meeting the participants emphasized the successful work of Mariupol State University concerning promotion and dissemination of the Italian language, history and culture, as well as strengthening the Ukrainian-Italian ties.
